Learning to See the Living Landscape
Tree Lovers School offers classes, plant walks, presentations, and property assessments that help people truly know the trees and plants growing around them — season by season, leaf by leaf, branch by branch.
Led by longtime botanical educator Carrie Blair, Tree Lovers School invites careful observation, curiosity, and a deeper relationship with the natural world.
A Lifetime of Learning, Shared Generously
For decades, Carrie has studied trees and wildflowers through field observation, seminars, workshops, plant walks with other botanists, and continual independent study. She is especially skilled at identifying plants using subtle cues — leaf scars, twig structure, bark patterns, bud arrangement, flower form, growth habits, and seasonal changes.
She delights in helping students:
-
Recognize patterns in plant families
-
Remember scientific names using mnemonics and associations
-
Understand native and non-native species
-
See familiar landscapes with new eyes
Tree Lovers School exists to foster the thrill of recognition — the moment when a tree or wildflower becomes a familiar friend rather than a mysterious stranger.

The Joy of Knowing
When you learn the names and stories of the plants around you, your daily walks change.
Forests become communities. Fields become histories. Neighborhood trees become companions.
Tree Lovers School helps cultivate that way of seeing.
